Donna Andrews is an artist from Northern California whose works in watercolor, charcoal and oil have been shown in galleries and juried art shows throughout the country.

Donna has worked most of her artistic career with oil and charcoal media.  Her watercolor paintings have a distinctive style, which Donna attributes to her early training in oil and charcoal.  "I tend to work the watercolors like oils.  Instead of light washes, I use the darker colors,"  giving the viewer, she says, a sense of boldness and definition not usually associated with watercolor.  This is even more pronounced in her miniatures, which because of the small size, she outlines in pen and ink to better define the subject.  "After you apply the pen and ink, the subject jumps out at you," she explains.

In addition to watercolor, Donna also works extensively with charcoal, specializing in western art.  she has gained acclaim for her exquisitely detailed portrayals of rodeo cowboys in action, and she enjoys the precision and detail that working in charcoal allows her.  All of Donna's western drawings are done in the technique of the old masters using vine charcoal.

Donna has been showing her work since the early 1980s, when she captured first and second-place finishes in several local juried art shows sponsored by the North Valley Art League in Redding.  Since then, her paintings have been accepted in juried art shows in Fall River Mills, Olympia, Washington, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Her paintings are currently displayed in galleries in Redding, Cottonwood, Anderson, Mt. Shasta, as well as galleries in Wickenburg Arizona, Lawrence Kansas and Carmel, California.

Although primarily self-taught, Donna has participated in art workshops and painting classes in Jacksonville, Oregon, and in Redding.  She has studied with artists mark Young of San Francisco and Susan F. Greaves of Redding.

Donna lives in Anderson, California with her husband Mike.  Her limited edition prints are available with or without frames.  Donna can be reached by email at dandrewsart@aol.com, or by telephone at 1.530.547.4079.
